We can accept Visa and Mastercard credit card payments via Westpac's Payway or Paypal's secure online payment solutions. No credit card information is stored on any of our systems.

Please note that advance payment is required for all our group courses. We book our courses on a first paid basis so places can't be assured unless full payment is received with your booking. Most of our courses fill up quickly and because we have limited places you should book early to avoid dissapointment.

Course Overview

Our most popular course. For beginners or more advanced amateurs this two day workshop is designed specifically for owners of digital SLR cameras. After morning information sessions participants will go outside and apply what they have learnt and review the results as a group. A must for anyone who wants to learn what they need to get the best out of their digital SLR camera. Lunch is provided on both days.

Topics Covered will include:

• Basic digital concepts - inc.resolution, file formats, digital colour, memory & storage.
• How the SLR camera works
• Camera settings
• Lighting & exposure
• Subject movement and depth of field
• Technical quality (sharpness, focus, exposure)
• Using you SLR camera
• Composition
• How to take better photos.

Level of Fitness: Our studio is on the first floor and during the course we will go outside and walk around a bit, including a short section with a steepish walkway, so a basic level of fitness is required. If you have any fitness or health worries please contact us directly and we can advise on the options.

What to Bring: Bring your digital camera with fresh batteries, memory card and instruction manual. For outside excursions - clothing for changeable conditions, good solid shoes, sunscreen and a hat. A tripod would be useful for the second day.

Your trainers

Terry Oakley and Calvin Harris, are your Photoskills tutors who have over 50 years combined experience in photoimaging practice, teaching and photo sales. Our courses let you take advantage of their extensive skills and experience to get the best practical information and advice to apply to your photographic pursuits.

Terry Oakley is a professional photographer and teacher with over 30 years experience. After graduating from RMIT he worked in medical photography before pursuing a freelance career doing mainly scientific and technical photo assignment work. At the same time he started sessional teaching in adult education and TAFE colleges. Currently he also teaches accredited photography course subjects at Brougham School of Art & Photography in Geelong.

Calvin Harris has a background of over 20 years in professional freelance photography and photo sales. His great passion for motorbikes has led him to assignments around the country photographing for the top motorbike magazines and manufacturers. Currently based in Geelong, in Victoria, Australia, he still covers local sports events and does freelance photo work. When he finds the time he likes to indulge his other passion of landscape photography.
